Would you believe me if I told you that I got to Bangkok, Thailand from Miami, USA for only $56? I know it’s hard to believe, but this cheap trip really did cost me only $56. How did I do it? I won free tickets! I know, that’s not what you wanted to hear, you were expecting some super slick flight deal, and I’m sorry to disappoint. But I can tell you how I went about it and perhaps you can score some free tickets too.
How I Won
I actually had the help of two different people to make this happen. It all started when my friend told me about a twitter contest she saw on Facebook. Turkish Airlines had just established a home base in Miami, Florida and were giving away free tickets to anywhere in the world for people who participated in their contest. Each day they put up a different contest, and the one that I won was a picture contest where you had to submit a photo of your little one in their halloween costume. I don’t have kids of my own, but I do have nieces! I pulled up a picture of my niece in her halloween costume, which I thought was incredibly cute, and posted it. A couple of days later they messaged me saying I had won!
I could pick any place in the world to go to that Turkish Airlines flies and I could choose one of 8 cities to depart from. My choice was Thailand because it is the primary location to travel Southeast Asia, which is something that I had been wanting to do for a long time. It helped that I also had a friend that was ready and willing to go with me, which worked out really well.
So, why $56?
This cheap trip ended up costing me $56 dollars because I had to pay a few taxes & fees that the airline didn’t cover, meaning that it wasn’t a completely free trip, but damn near close. I didn’t have to pay extra for baggage or meals, everything was included. The only bummer was that I had a 9 hour layover, but that’s a small price to pay for a practically free cheap trip.
Win a Cheap Trip Yourself
It was incredibly easy to win that ticket for primarily one reason: lack of competition. There were so few entries, literally under 30 entries per contest, that my chances were better than you could ask for. I happened to come across this contest by chance, because my friend saw it and told me about it. Can you imagine how many contests are going unnoticed? Doing a simple search on twitter or instagram with the hashtag #contest can give you many options to look into, so go ahead and find yourself that cheap trip! If you’ve ever won a big contest, let me know in the comments below! I’d love to chat about what you did to get there.
